For the first time ElringKlinger Motortechnik GmbH realized real test drives regarding exhaust- and consumption measurements on hybrid vehicles. In doing so, interest results about emissions and performance could be gained.
For the test drives CuroCon provided a full-hybrid vehicle from its fleet, a VW Passat GTE. ElringKlinger Motortechnik equipped the test vehicle with a mobile emission measuring instrument (PEMS) as well as further sensors. For the central collecting of all measurement data in real time CuroControl®Mx was employed. The RDE-measurement sector starting at EKM in Idstein was conformably defined to the EU regulation 2016/427.
After the completion of the test drives the measurement results were prepared and subsequently contrasted in the individual driving modes. As expected the slightest consumption is achieved in the e-mode. By contrast, the CO- and NOx-emissions are similar high as in the hybrid- and GTE-mode; a higher initial charge state of the traction battery does not lead to any improvements regarding the emissions. What is conspicuous is the emission behavior in the Charge-mode: The CO2-emission/consumption is almost twice as high as the emission/consumption in the other modes and further the CO-emission is higher by the factor of 3 to 5.
The results have confirmed, that hybrid drives offer much more degrees of freedom as conventional drives. Drive components, its design and especially its operating strategy offer a further field of development for optimization. Comparative test drives with other vehicles are already in preparation.
